References guide the mood
References help communicate subject, energy, texture, and detail. They are a starting point for an original design, not a template to copy.

The approach
You do not need to arrive with a finished drawing. Bring the subject, mood, meaningful details, and examples of what you respond to. Natalie uses those ingredients to build an original composition rather than copying another artist’s tattoo.
Placement is part of the design from the beginning. Scale, direction, line weight, and negative space are considered together so the finished piece feels balanced on your body.

A good fit for
References help communicate subject, energy, texture, and detail. They are a starting point for an original design, not a template to copy.
The same idea may need a different silhouette or scale depending on whether it lives on an arm, leg, back, ribs, or another placement.
When an idea contains many elements, Natalie helps identify the strongest focal points so the finished tattoo remains readable and cohesive.
